Oregon Trout proudly presents The City of Portland Triathlon

For the past 25 years Oregon Trout has worked to restore freshwater health through innovation and education. Their objective: to restore health to every river and stream in the state, and keep them healthy forever. It's a heady goal, but absolutely essential to maintain our quality of life in Oregon.

According to the EPA, 30,000 of Oregon's 115,000 stream miles "fail to support aquatic life." Shocked? So were we. So what can we do about it? Oregon Trout and their partners dedicated themselves to restoring every one of those stream miles. But how long will that take? The current system for restoration operates at a rate of 1 stream mile every 3 years. At Oregon's current work pace of 250 miles per year, we will finish fixing 30,000 unhealthy stream miles in 2366 A.D.

We simply must do better.

Through their StreamBank™ program, the Portland-based non-profit works with agencies, watershed councils, and private funders to revolutionize the system for stream restoration. Web-based technology will accelerate the rate of restoration to 1 stream mile in 1 year and a work pace of 1,000 stream miles per year. At this pace, all 30,000 miles of unhealthy streams will be fixed in about 30 years.

As triathletes, we know the joy of clean water. As human beings, our lives depend on it. The City of Portland Triathlon shares Oregon Trout's vision for a future of sparkling, vibrant, life-supporting waterways.

With your help, Oregon Trout can finish this work in a single generation. Find out how.
