On August 22, with the iconic Willamette River as a backdrop, The Freshwater Trust
will partner with the Portland Triathlon to launch the Run for the River 5K and 1K
The 5k Fun Run (course map) will begin at 8:30am in Waterfront Park, circle the Willamette River through parks and over bridges, and cross the triathlon's iconic living finish line. The Stream Stride (course map), a 1K run for kids, will start at 11:30 am from Salmon Springs Fountain and also finish through the living finish line. Afterwards, enjoy the popular post-race festival with organic food, local beer, festive music, and interactive family-friendly activities while watching the triathletes stream across the line.
Not only is Run for the River a fundraiser for a conservation not-for-profit, the event will also adhere to the same rigorous production standards as the triathlon. Elements such as sustainable bamboo race shirts, carbon offsets for all greenhouse gas emissions, locally sourced and organic food, and waste recycled or composted will be fundamental. And with the help of Portland Water Bureau's Water Event Station (WES), the need for plastic water bottles and water transport has been eliminated. Through all the events of the weekend, we're committed to environmental responsibility and honoring Portland's reputation as a leader in sustainability.
